Moving rail mobility forward.

Powered by experts and driven by sustainable thinking, mtrail develops innovative and impactful railway technology. By realising a wide variety of scalable projects today, we are creating efficient frameworks for the future.

RCS system family

Groundbreaking
in every way:
the Rail Control System
RCS Switzerland.

25% more passengers, 10% increase in occupancy, punctuality and safety for the world's most heavily used rail network.

With the development of RCS, mtrail and the Swiss Federal Railways SBB have implemented the transport management IT system of the future. SBB currently transports 1.25 million passengers and 210,000 tonnes of freight per day. As the central traffic management system, RCS is of crucial importance for the optimum handling of the rail traffic.

The modular dispatching system controls the traffic throughout the entire rail network. Due to its open architecture, RCS can be scaled according to demand and requirements and allows for future expansions of the rail network’s capacity limits. The interaction of the RCS system family (RCS ADL, RCS Dispo, RCS ALEA, RCS HOT) masters 100,000 conflict solutions per day. Relevant information is centrally accessible to all parties involved, enabling them to carry out analyses and implement the measures derived from them in a much more precise way.

The tremendous flexibility and effectiveness of RCS are the foundation of a cost-conscious and sustainable solution that thinks ahead and takes the mobility sector further. Much further.

RCS-ADL – green light

With ADL the signals are always green.

Power and cost reduction, eco-friendly driving, on-time arrivals, reduced braking and less particulate matter: ADL manages all of this.

The RCS Adaptive Control Module (ADL) calculates the optimum speed, avoiding unnecessary stops and eliminating the energy-intensive restarting of trains.

As part of the dispatching system, ADL detects train conflicts and optimises arrivals at terminus stations. Internal communication takes place in real time: The rail services dispatcher in the control centre confirms velocity recommendations, which are immediately transmitted to the engine drivers. Green light recommendations enable the engine driver to run the train smoothly and avoid unnecessary stops in front of red signals.

Today, almost 1,400 trains are controlled in this way every day, saving 136,000 kilowatt hours. Over the entire year, this corresponds to the energy consumption of 12,500 households.

mtrail and SBB were awarded the Watt d'Or 2016 in the Energy-Efficient Mobility category for their globally unique green light in rail traffic ADL system. After four years of practical use in the entire SBB network, ADL is still the only C-DAS (Driver Advisory System) that steers all trains simultaneously and thus contributes significantly to climate protection: electricity savings of up to 71 gigawatts per year and reduction of particulate matter by avoiding unnecessary braking.

SCION Workbench

Building strong frameworks.

The SCION Workbench is a web-based integration platform that demonstrates all the advantages of large enterprise applications and paves the way for valuable frameworks.

Flexibility through view grids, seamless integration of micro-frontends, connection of applications via their URL: The SCION Workbench facilitates the integration of basically any web application.

To this end, the Workbench employs the concept of capabilities and intents, known, for example, from Android environments. In a manifest, each application describes how it intends to interact with the application network.

The Workbench DevTools can be used to inspect the applications and their interaction and to show their dependencies. The DevTools are easy to integrate as a micro-frontend.

As a contributor, mtrail – together with the SBB - assumes responsibility for the development and maintenance of the Workbench. In addition to continuous improvements in stability, topics such as theming, responsive design and multi-browser support are on the agenda.
